Southern Shores Pizza

In Food & Dining, OBX Locals, Outer Banks Pizza

Watch Us Make Pizza – The great pizza debate. Who has the best? New York? Chicago? And should pineapple actually be an option for this Italian import? No matter what your preference, Southern Shores Pizza should be on your list of MUST-try pizzerias!! They have a very inviting dine-in atmosphere, engaging employees, and some seriously delicious, fresh food. What sets them apart from other area pizza places? They have the only old stone oven in the area, they make their own sauce, dough, and they grate their cheese fresh daily.

Customers are offered an extensive list of toppings to create their dream pizza, and yes, they even offer pineapple! Our Three Dog Ink office recently ordered the Monte Calvo which had the perfect combination of freshly chopped garlic and sweet Roma tomatoes, topped with two kinds of cheese. We also ordered the Rip Coyles which are pinwheels of pizza dough, pepperoni, fresh garlic, and mozzarella cheese. They were heavenly! (see them being made in the video below) Next we can’t wait to try the Costa Rosa Pizza which is a collaboration pie with the Outer Banks Taco Bar featuring their delicious braised pork and rosa sauce, red onions, roma tomatoes and mozzarella.

Watch Us Make Pizza at Southern Shores Pizza and also order sub sandwiches, salads, vegetarian options. And what would all this be without a glass of wine or ice cold beer to wash it all down? On a side note, when customers buy a glass of wine at Southern Shores Pizza, they are giving back to the OBX community. For every case of wine sold, meals are provided for Outer Banks residents in need through the Beach Food Pantry.

Their signature Rip Coyles are named after the contractor at Todd Coyle Construction who helped owners, Jay and Rebecca Olszewski, build out their newest location at Southern Shores Crossing at 1 Ocean Boulevard in Kitty Hawk. They opened this location in 2015, with the help of their manager Colby Boone, a JMU graduate. Rebecca says, “We couldn’t have done this without Colby. He worked for us for 5 summers before we decided to open Southern Shores Pizza, and he is an integral part of our business.” Their original location, Corolla Pizza & Deli has been a staple in the northern Outer Banks since 1989, and they also own Corolla Scoops & Sweets. Moving to the Outer Banks in 2000 from Redding, Pennsylvania, for the love of beach life, they have made this their home. The Olszewskis live in Southern Shores with their three children.♦
